Isaac Mizrahi ‘07, Lawyer and Business Leader
Isaac’s Hillel experiences provided the Jewish values and leadership lessons he applies as CEO of Sunshine Tape Products.
What warms your heart when you think of your student days at Scheck Hillel?
It warms my heart to think that some of my most cherished friendships today were born at Scheck Hillel almost 30 years ago.
Share a funny story from your student days at Scheck Hillel.
Traveling to New York my senior year to an all-Jewish basketball tournament at Yeshiva University was a special memory that I had with my Hillel teammates. It made me realize how special our friendships were and the bond that was shared between us also exists at other Jewish schools across the country.
Was there a teacher who had a positive impact and made you feel like you could do it all?
Rabbi Lefkowitz not only taught me valuable lessons as a Talmud teacher but he was also our Student Government Faculty Advisor. He taught me valuable leadership lessons that have stayed with me to this day. I learned the value of harmonizing competing interests and actively listening to everyone's opinions so that whatever path forward we chose, all students would feel like they were part of the process.
Do you feel like your days as a Scheck Hillel student had an impact on your adult life and your choices? How so?
Scheck Hillel had a tremendous impact on the adult I have become. Beyond preparing me academically for my University and Law School education, I learned the importance of living an ethical and impactful Jewish life and to maintain Jewish values while contributing to the health and wellness of my local community.
What educational path did you follow?
I attended Hillel from Kindergarten through 12th grade. I then graduated with Honors from Duke University majoring in Political Science, Markets and Management Studies and a minor in Economics. Thereafter, I graduated from University of Florida's Levin College of Law.
What is your current profession, and where do you work? How did you come to work in this field?
I am currently the CEO of Sunshine Tape Products where we manufacture tape, adhesives and solvents in the beauty and medical fields. I came across this line of work representing a legal client who was looking to sell his business and buy the current business. I have now run and grown it over the last few years employing a few Hillel Scheck Alumni.
What is most rewarding about the work you do? What are you passionate about?
The most rewarding part of my work is the people I work with and the family we have built at our company. Our business requires intimate knowledge of our products and expert handling of materials. Our team is highly trained and efficient at solving complex problems which is one of my true passions. Our team continues to grow internally as well as through outside acquisitions of companies in our similar field. We are excited for what the future holds for Sunshine Tape.
Looking back, what advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
As Student Government President, I was lucky enough to be able to speak at my High School graduation. The message I sent was similar to the advice I would give now. To cherish not only the moments that you have in high school, but the friendships you've made. By virtue of attending Scheck Hillel, your classmates are the future leaders of tomorrow. It is vital to continue fostering those relationships even after high school. Your current classmates and alumni will be your future business partners, mentors, colleagues, groomsmen/bridesmaids and life long friends. Any time you spend investing in those relationships will bring you life's most valuable returns.
